The Leadership in Law Awards recognize dedicated individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has had a positive impact on Long Island. Recipients of this award demonstrate outstanding achievements, involvement in their profession, support of the community and mentoring.
The selected Meyer Suozzi attorneys reside in the firm’s Garden City office and represent three of our 18 practice areas. Leadership in Law award recipients include:
Lifetime Achievement Award: A. Thomas Levin, a Member of the firm and Chair of the firm’s Local Government, Land Use Law and Environmental Compliance practice and the Professional Responsibility practice. Mr. Levin’s qualities of experience, dedication, hard work, skill, tenacity, excellence and compassion, all result in a positive impact on Long Island. Mr. Levin was the president of the 77,000-member New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) from 2003 to 2004. He is the past president of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association Fund. He continues to serve on many committees of the NYSBA, including the Executive Committees of the Local and State Government Law Section, International Section and Senior Lawyers Section. Mr. Levin initiated and Chairs the Meyer Suozzi Scholarship Committee, which awards scholarships to Long Island veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and are now enrolled at Nassau Community College.
Partner Award: Thomas R. Slome, a Member and the Chair of the Bankruptcy & Business Reorganization Law Department represents a wide variety of clients in all aspects of bankruptcy including corporate reorganization, bankruptcy related litigation, creditors’ rights, and out of court debt restructuring. In addition to Mr. Slome’s commitment to providing superior legal services, he is dedicated to helping the community and the children of Long Island. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI), an organization which promotes positive growth and development of Long Island’s children by providing quality mentoring, education and support services.
Of Counsel Award: Lauren B. Grassotti, Of Counsel to the Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Employment Law Departments, is experienced in all aspects of litigation, including pre-litigation investigation and claim assessment, development of litigation strategy, pleadings, depositions, discovery (including electronic discovery), expert discovery, motions, preparing cases for trial, trial and appeals, and regularly practices before state and federal trial and appellate courts. Ms. Grassotti also has substantial experience conducting internal investigations and responding to regulatory subpoenas and inquires.
Associate Award: Daniel B. Rinaldi, an Associate in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department, represents individuals and businesses, including not-for-profits and municipalities, in litigation in state, federal, and alternative dispute resolution fora. Mr. Rinaldi practices in areas of the law such as contracts, labor and employment, business torts, including interference with contractual relations, misappropriation of trade secrets, and fraudulent conveyances, corporations and other business organizations, including partnerships and LLCs, insurance, and civil rights.
