Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. has named James D. Garbus chair of the firm’s Corporate Law department. Mr. Garbus provides legal and strategic advice to entrepreneurs, start-ups, emerging growth companies as well as local and multi-national established businesses. His professional focus includes mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, representing both issuers and investors and including seed, private equity and venture capital transactions and mezzanine and acquisition financing.
Mr. Garbus’ clients also include financial institutions and other debt providers as well as borrowers in lending transactions, including senior secured and subordinated debt facilities. He has broad experience in structuring and forming complex joint ventures, limited partnerships and limited liability companies./
For three years running, Mr. Garbus has been recognized as a top corporate attorney in Long Island Business News’ edition of “Who's Who in Corporate Law.” Mr. Garbus is also the co-founder of a film finance and production company and is the producer of several independent films and related productions. Mr. Garbus joined the firm in 2009 and served as co-chair of the Corporate Department. He will also continue to serve as Co-Chair of the Corporate Finance Practice Group which he was instrumental in creating.

Shapiro, who served as chair of the Corporate Department from 2003 to 2011 and co-chair since 2011, stated that, “James has been a terrific addition to the firm and has worked hard to earn this position. I am delighted to transition these responsibilities to him.” Mr. Shapiro will remain with the firm and continue his practice as Of Counsel.
